Promote the bicycle!

In helping mother earth get rid of all this pollution and excessive smoke, you’re free to use your bike to travel short distances! The City of Kortrijk is already investing more to get all the citizens on their bikes – it’s like going to the gym for free!

The City of Kortrijk is investing 14.5 million in a bike-friendly environment. Almost every habitant has a bike, yet almost half still goes by car for short distaces! The city Council has decided to transform several crossroads and intersections into a ‘zone 30’, it will construct new bike-friendly school environments and they will increase the number of bicycle sheds.

The city has already invested in Blue Bikes, which you can rent for 1 euro per day, and it is now investing in more Blue Bikes and bicycle sheds for these Blue Bikes. Furthermore, after your bike is stolen, you can report it to the police and you can get a voucher from Parko to rent a bicycle for free for one month from Mobiel! This option already exists, but none of the citizens actually know about it, so they want to raise more awareness.

After 2018, a bicycle highway will be constructed between Overleie and Sint-Katrien (Sente).
